Secrets of the Ryan Reynolds Workout Routine
You can hardly turn the corner these days without seeing him in an action film or a romantic comedy.
Of course now that he’s a superstar he won’t be performing in any television series or shows. It’s obvious that the custom-made diet plan and his workout routine which were designed by his personal trainer Bobby Strom were responsible for the new Ryan Reynolds body. Needless to say, his movie star or Hollywood body has both men and women clamoring to see his latest flick Green Lantern.
He first came onto the scene in great physical conditioning in the film Van Wilder, then in Blade Trinity. In that film, you could see he really packed on the muscle and was ripped to shreds. Now of course, we all can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars to have a celebrity trainer or spend 4 to 6 hours a day working out.
After all, we do have families, friends, jobs and sometimes even a life.
However, there are inexpensive pieces of fitness equipment that you can use to workout at home and achieve results similar to if not better than his.
Blade Trinity Workout
According to him… he never touched a barbell or lifted free weights prior to July 2003.
And he only had six months to get ready physically before filming began in December 2003. In total, he only had five months to get ready. Jessica Biel and Ryan’s celebrity personal trainer for that film was Darren Chapman.
Chapman is a former member of the UK Olympic bobsled team and likes to use visualization in his training process.
His exercise sessions lasted approximately 2 to 3 hours.
The first thing he did was start off with sit-ups. Then they used heavy weights to develop muscle size and bulk. Since he was always a scrawny individual they didn’t do any cardio training and just focused on bulking up.
Here’s the Breakdown of His Full Body Workout And Muscle Building Routine:
- Train Six Days per Week One Muscle Group per Day
- Perform 8 to 12 Repetitions of Each Exercise
- Worked Only One Body Part per Day
- Abs Were Done Every Single Day (six times per week)
Bear this in mind, he never performed a full body work out. The Ryan Reynolds training program emphasized a workout program that focused on building muscle and packing on size…because he was a skinny or scrawny guy to begin with.
Six Pack Abs Training
His abdominal training or ab exercises were focused on the lower abs because they’re the most difficult muscles to develop. So the trainer had him using an exercise ball that was placed between his legs. He would then lift the ball up and down using only his legs. This movement really targets the lower abs.
His second favorite abdominal exercise was leg raises.
He would place a 15 pound dumbbell between his feet and do leg raises while resting on the floor. By the end of his fitness program he had a wicked set of killer abs. In fact, they look like he had an 18 pack rather than a 6 pack abs. An interviewer from Muscle and Fitness Magazine thought that he had ab implants and at first didn’t want to interview him for their article. That’s how ripped his stomach was.
Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern Workout
For the film Green Lantern he played the character Hal Jordan.
However, he had to add some additional muscle size. Similar to what he did with X-Men origins Wolverine when he played the character of Wade Wilson or Deadpool. In fact, rumor has it that they’re going to be filming a new film based on the character Deadpool which is supposed to be released sometime in 2014.
For this film he again used celebrity personal trainer Bobby Strom.
Strom is a former competitive body builder and was very confident that he could get him ripped and back into shape in only 18 weeks. The Green Lantern workout use a combination of strength training, resistance bands, yoga, cardio, and even Pilates. It was a strenuous and exhausting workout.
In order to get his fitness session done he had to train between 5 and 7 AM.
In addition to strength training he also had to take lessons on using a Samurai Sword. The workouts used a "Functional Fitness" approach. Functional fitness combines isometrics, resistance bands training, weight lifting, along with stability and core movements.
All the exercises were performed in the low repetition range – only 6 to 8 reps per set.
Ryan Reynolds Diet 2011
His nutrition program was based on eating mostly lean meats such as fish or chicken, protein powder shakes, protein bars, and consuming approximately 6 small meals.
This is the kind of diet that a bodybuilder uses.
To get maximum results from this type of diet and fitness plan it’s best to you some supplements such as whey protein which is low-sugar protein powder. This will help with your fat loss. As mentioned earlier your workout regimen should focus on weight training or resistance exercises using free weights or resistance bands.
The easiest way to make sure you get enough protein to maximize muscle growth is to use 2 to 3 protein shakes per day. It’s easier to consume the amount of protein you need and it will help you in getting ripped fast.
The Ryan Reynolds workout and diet program can be used by anyone that is skinny or scrawny and wants to put on some serious muscle size in a short period of time. However, it does demand commitment and dedication to sticking to the program and diet.
